All 4 GB confirmed for game - six platforms!
Posted on November 14, 2007
Forget Game Informer - Variety has the first details on the upcoming Ghostbusters game!
The games will be published by Sierra Studios (owned by Vivendi Universal) in the Fall of 2008 for six (6!) platforms - PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, and Nintento DS. The interesting part is that half are for the grown up gamer, and half will be aimed at a family or casual gamer. Since the casual forms will be on the PS2, Wii, and DS, this suggests a big difference in the type of game.
Also confirmed is that all four GBs, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis will be lending their voices to the game, with Aykroyd and Ramis writing the storyline.
Even better is that William Atherton, Brian Doyle Murray (Bill’s brother, and the psyche doctor from the second movie) and Annie Potts are signed on as well. No word on anyone else, though word has it that Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis have passed.
The photo above is from the Variety article, but has no credit or reference to the games - does anybody know if that is fan art they nicked for something to use?
[Update] Thanks to some digging by Charles and Tyler, here’s a second picture (though, as much as I love the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, bringing him back doesn’t bode well for a unique GB story - maybe he’s in a flashback. That certainly looks like the end of the first movie.)

Vivendi, Sony call 'Ghostbusters'
Duo pact on videogame franchise
By BEN FRITZ
'Ghostbusters'
'Ghostbusters'
Vivendi Games is pacting with Sony Pictures to turn "Ghostbusters" into a videogame franchise.
First title in what the publisher hopes will be a series of "Ghostbusters" games is set for release in fall '08 from Vivendi's Sierra label.
All four members of the movie team -- Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis -- will be giving voice and likeness rights for the game. Some supporting castmembers have signed up as well, including William Atherton, Brian Doyle Murray and Annie Potts.
In addition, film scribes Aykroyd and Ramis will pen a story for the vidgame that takes place in the early '90s, after "Ghostbusters II," during a new ghoul invasion of New York City.
Deal comes on the heels of several other classic movies that have recently been adapted into successful vidgames, including EA's "The Godfather" and Vivendi's own "Scarface: The World Is Yours."
"We noticed we did well on 'Scarface' and were alert for new opportunities to turn iconic film products into games in a way that is a new manifestation of the franchise," Vivendi Games CEO Bruce Hack said. "'Ghostbusters' is unquestionably among the small number of movies in that class."
Vivendi has sold more than 2.5 million units of last year's "Scarface" game worldwide, grossing more than $125 million and making it a solid success, if not quite at the level of top franchises like "Halo." Though Vivendi hasn't yet confirmed plans, a sequel is known to be in the works.
Hack noted that, in making both deals, Vivendi did a survey of gamers asking which movie properties they would like to see turned into videogames. "Scarface" and "Ghostbusters" were both in the top five.
Publisher is particularly optimistic for the chances of "Ghostbusters" because, unlike the young male-targeted "Scarface," it has the potential to appeal to children and adults. Developer Terminal Reality is making a "Ghostbusters" game for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 aimed primarily at the core gamer demographic, while Red Fly Studios is making a version for Playstation 2, Wii and DS designed more for families and casual gamers.
With the addition of "Ghostbusters," Vivendi now has several licensed franchises in its portfolio, including "Scarface," the Robert Ludlum books such as "Bourne Identity" and "Covert One," and rapper 50 Cent.
It's the first major vidgame deal for one of its library titles that Sony Pictures has made. Studio talked with several publishers before making a deal with Vivendi. Such deals can be quite lucrative because licensing revenue comes in with very little spending on the studio's side. Advances for multiyear deals on major franchises such as "Ghostbusters" are typically in the tens of millions of dollars.
"This brand is a very important asset for the studio, and we feel it's prime time for it to be rediscovered through videogames," said Mark Caplan, VP of Sony's consumer products division.
Several "Ghostbusters" games came out around the time of the two movies, and one in the past decade has been tied to the animated series "Extreme Ghostbusters.". -

Ghostbusters to slime consoles, PC
Supernatural cult classic confirmed by December cover of Game Informer as coming to Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PC; Aykroyd, Ramis-penned script to be sequel to first two films.
By Tom Magrino, GameSpot
Posted Nov 14, 2007 4:53 pm PT
In January, a developer working for Slovenian outfit Zootfly uploaded to popular video-sharing site YouTube what appeared to be footage of a new game based on the 1984 cult classic Ghostbusters. In an interview with GameSpot, Zootfly chief Bostjan Troha said that the footage was from a prototype build for the game running on an Xbox 360, but copyright issues were preventing the project from moving forward.
Ghosts ceased to be scary in 1984.
It appeared Zootfly had succeeded in its legal wranglings in February, when Dr. Raymond Stantz himself, under the guise of prolific comedian Dan Aykroyd, revealed to the Edmonton Sun that former copyright holders Sony had sold the rights to the game to Universal Studios, and that he would be doing mo-cap work for the game "next year." Despite Aykroyd's statements, Universal Studios owner Vivendi refused to confirm the game's existence.
Vivendi's silence on the matter gained reason today, as the cover of the December issue of Game Informer reveals that a Ghostbusters game is indeed in development, but it will reportedly not involve Zootfly's demo. The game is being developed on the Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, and PC. A release window has not yet been revealed, nor has a publisher or developer yet been attached to the project.
True to his word, Aykroyd will have a hand in the project, penning the script with fellow supernatural scientist Egon, aka Harold Ramis. Forgoing a theatrical release, the game will serve as a direct sequel to the first two Ghostbusters films, with Ramis, Aykroyd, and Bill Murray all signed on to reprise their roles..
